I am friends with a few “big idea”/entrepreneur/visionary types and I get a big kick out of them! I come alive when I get to interact with people around their grand ideas and big hearts to make a positive difference in the world. They bring out the best in me and I help to bring out the best in them!
One way that I make significant impact with these adventuresome, hard-charging, more-ideas-than-they-can-count kind of people is by listening.
I’ve never been scolded for listening too well to anyone. Have you? When I think about conversations I’ve had recently I didn’t walk away thinking “I wish they wouldn’t have listened so well!”
Listening is a gift not wasted on anyone or any “type” of person!
Listening is, to quote my husband “simple but complex” (we often laugh about how many things fit into this category!). I find that the more I invest in being an attentive listener the more I watch people experience joy, and love. And specifically with my entrepreneur friends I hear them gain clarity, and get back to themselves so that they can focus on what’s most important. This is a BIG DEAL to them!
If you are anything like me, sometimes listening to “one more idea” is maddening. The same is true for the scattered entrepreneur. All those ideas and possibilities with no place to go is maddening for them too!
What I’ll say for now is hang in there! There are ways for us to take good care of ourselves by communicating with our visionary friends about when we are ready and able to listen well. There are all kinds of ways we can encourage our big-idea friends that are really fun for us too! More to come!
In the meanwhile, if you are someone that gets jazzed up by being with your “lots of irons in the fire” friend. Keep listening, it’s a big help!
